What Happens If It Rains on Our Wedding Day?

Let’s be honest, we live in the UK, so rain is always a possibility. Whether it’s a light drizzle or a full downpour, wet weather is something most couples worry about at some point in their planning journey.

As a Shropshire wedding photographer, I’ve photographed countless weddings in every kind of weather, and I can promise you this: rain doesn’t ruin your photos, your atmosphere, or your memories. In fact, some of the most romantic and emotive images I’ve captured were taken with umbrellas in hand and raindrops falling around us.

Here’s how we handle it.

I Always Come Prepared (with and umbrella)

I bring a clear umbrella with me to every wedding. It's large enough to keep you dry, stylish enough not to distract from your outfits, and transparent so it doesn't don’t block the light or your faces in photos. Whether it’s a quick walk from the ceremony to the reception or a rainy couple’s shoot in the garden, we’ll be covered.

If you have a wedding party, bring extra umbrella's for you and your crew, this thoughtful gesture ensures that everyone stays dry and comfortable, regardless of the weather.

Timelines Stay Flexible

We won’t be sticking rigidly to the schedule if it’s pouring at the exact time we planned to go outside. I always keep an eye on the forecast and light, so we can shift your portraits to a drier moment or squeeze in a quick photo break between showers.

And if it rains all day? We’ll work with it, not against it. There are still so many opportunities to create beautiful, atmospheric images indoors or under cover.

Indoor Options Can Be Just as Beautiful

A lot of venues in Shropshire and beyond have gorgeous interiors with large windows, textured walls, candlelight, staircases. These aren’t second choices, they’re fantastic backdrops for intimate, emotional portraits. I’ll always scout these spaces in advance and guide you to the best spots on the day.

Plus, there’s something genuinely cosy and special about huddling indoors together while the rain taps on the windows.

Rain Adds Mood, Movement, and Emotion

Rain naturally slows things down. Couples often find themselves more present, holding hands under an umbrella, sharing a quiet laugh as they dash inside. These are the moments I love to capture; real, unscripted, and full of feeling.

Raindrops on a veil, a partner gently drying your dress hem, reflections in puddles, these all tell a deeper story than a picture-perfect sunny day sometimes can.

You Set the Tone

Your attitude shapes how the day feels, more than the weather ever could. If you’re up for embracing it, whether that means walking through drizzle or laughing your way back inside, your guests will follow your lead. And your photos will reflect all of it: the realness, the joy, the closeness.

Final Thoughts:

The weather might not be perfect. But your photos? They absolutely still will be. Whether we’re dancing in the rain or tucked under an umbrella, I’ll be right there capturing every moment as it unfolds, honestly and beautifully.

Planning a wedding in Shropshire or beyond and worried about the forecast? Let’s talk. I’ve got you and your da covered.
