Planning your wedding can feel like a whirlwind, and while the big day is the main event, a pre-wedding shoot can be one of the best ways to add even more joy to your journey.

Having photographed over 90 weddings as a wedding photographer in Shropshire, I have seen first hand how a pre-wedding shoot can have benefit couples. Not only does it enhance your wedding story, but it also offers an enjoyable and stress-free experience ahead of the main event.

Here are five great reasons to consider having a pre wedding shoot

1. Get Comfortable in Front of the Camera

Even if you’re excited about your wedding photos, it’s totally normal to feel a bit nervous in front of the camera! A pre-wedding shoot helps you get used to being photographed, so you’re more relaxed and confident on the big day. This is especially helpful if you or your partner are camera-shy, as it’s an opportunity to learn how to pose naturally and enjoy the process.

2. Connect with Your Photographer

Your photographer will be with you all day on your wedding, so building a rapport ahead of time makes a huge difference. A pre-wedding shoot is a chance for us to get to know each other in a fun, low-pressure setting. I learn more about how you interact as a couple, your favorite angles, and your style preferences, so on your wedding day, everything flows smoothly.

3. Capture Beautiful Photos for Your Wedding Invitations

If you’re looking for photos that feel more personal and unique than the usual engagement photos, a pre-wedding shoot is perfect. You can use these photos for your wedding invitations, “save the date” cards, or even as part of your wedding decor. Shropshire has so many beautiful spots, and if you’re based in Shrewsbury, we can make use of the charming countryside, historical locations, scenic parks or your venue.

4. Mark the Journey Leading to Your Wedding

The engagement season is a special time on its own, full of excitement and anticipation. A pre-wedding shoot gives you a beautiful way to capture this chapter in your story. These photos highlight the journey and give you memories of this time in a way that feels truly personal.

5. Create a Trial Run for Your Wedding Day Look

Your pre-wedding shoot is also a great chance to test out your wedding look! Many couples use it as an excuse to trial their hair and makeup, see how different styles photograph, try out a casual version of their wedding attire or practice holding a bouquet prior to the big day to ensure they're holding it correctly and feel comfortable with it.. This way, you can make any adjustments you want before the wedding, knowing what looks and feels best on camera.
