If the idea of being photographed on your wedding day makes you feel a bit awkward, you’re definitely not alone. One of the best ways to feel more relaxed in front of the camera is to book in with me for your pre-wedding shoot (also known as an engagement shoot). These sessions are a great way to get to know me as your photographer, ease any nerves, and get a feel for how your photos will look on your wedding day.

As a wedding photographer, I’ve found that couples who book a pre-shoot often feel way more confident and comfortable when it comes to their actual wedding day. We’ll meet up at a beautiful location – somewhere that feels relaxed and natural – and take some casual, fun photos. There’s no pressure, no awkward posing, and definitely no stiff smiles. Just the two of you, being yourselves.

What to Expect During a Pre-Wedding Shoot

A relaxed, no-pressure experience

This isn’t a formal photo session with loads of posing – it’s more like a walk in the countryside, with a few laughs and some gorgeous moments captured along the way. We chat, explore, and keep things very natural so you feel at ease from the start.

Choosing the perfect location

From your wedding venue, to the windswept hilltops on the Long Mynd or to the quiet corners of your family farm, there are some incredible backdrops for your pre-shoot. I’m always happy to suggest spots that suit your vibe, especially if you love the outdoors or want something rural and meaningful.

Why a Pre-Shoot is Ideal for Camera-Shy Couples

Most of my couples say they feel nervous about having their photo taken – and that’s completely normal! A pre-shoot helps you feel comfortable being yourselves in front of the lens, so you’re not worrying about it when the wedding comes around.

Capture your relationship in a natural, genuine way

These shoots are all about the real stuff; the little looks between you both, the laughter, the way you hold hands without thinking. No cheesy poses, just beautiful, honest photos of the two of you, exactly as you are.

A Lovely Bonus for Your Wedding Plans

A pre-wedding shoot is also a great opportunity to:

  • See how gorgeous your photos can look ahead of the big day

  • Use the images for save-the-dates, invites or your wedding website

  • Get to know your photographer (me!) and build that trust before your wedding

So if you’re not sure what to expect on your wedding day or just want to feel more confident, a pre-shoot is a brilliant step. It’s relaxed, personal, and a lovely excuse to take a bit of time out together before everything gets busy.

Thinking about booking a wedding photographer who includes a pre shoot in their wedding package? Look no further, I’d love to hear about your plans, especially if you’re a couple who loves the countryside, or just wants something relaxed and natural. Let’s make it fun and easy!
